Safety Policies

Safety

Our top priority for the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and events is to provide a safe environment for all guests.

The St. Patrick’s Day Parade is a City-sponsored event which includes safety resources from IMPD, IEMS, IFD, DPW and Homeland Security on-site, as well as more than 50 volunteers.

The streets leading into the Parade set-up and Parade route will be barricaded and blocked by IMPD with the assistance of the Department of Public Works.

IEMS, IFD and Red Cross provides medical on-site throughout to the route.

Weather will be monitored by the National Weather Service, public safety, and the Control Center. Should any delays or cancellations be necessary, information will be posted to social media and event websites.

Covid Policies

We are working with local city and health officials and will monitor covid levels. The organization will follow all recommendations set by the CDC and the Marion County Department of Health guidelines.

Stay Home when Appropriate

Stay home if you have tested positive for COVID-19, are waiting for COVID-19 test results, have COVID-19 symptons, or have had close contact with a person who has tested positive for or who has symptoms of COVID-19.

Vaccines

We highly recommend every participant and guest be vaccinated and boosted for Covid. We hope that all participants and guests use common sense and respect for others.

Physical (Social) Distancing

Our events are outdoors so air circulation should be good to keep the potential spread of the virus to a minimum.

Whenever appropriate or possible, we recommend all try to maintain social distancing.

Parade units will be scheduled to arrive at Marshalling in the set-up area at staggered times.

Masks

Given the fact the events are outdoors, masks are not required for this event. However, it is recommended that masks be worn when in close proximity to others. We hope all participants and guests use common sense and respect for others.

We encourage attendees ahead of the event to bring and use masks in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.

As health agencies advise, masks should not be placed on babies or children younger than 2 years old, anyone who has trouble breathing, or anyone who is unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the mask without assistance.

As health agencies advise, people who have a condition or are taking medications that weaken their immune system may not be fully protected even if they are fully vaccinated. They should continue to take all precautions recommended for unvaccinated people, including wearing a well-fitted mask, until advised otherwise by their healthcare provider.

Hand Hygiene and Respiratory Etiquette

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

If soap and water are not readily available, use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol and rub your hands until dry.

We encourage participants and spectators to bring their own hand sanitizers to the Parade. The event committee will provide hand wash and hand sanitizer stations near portable restrooms.

As health agencies advise, people who have come into contact with someone with COVID-19 at the event should take a test for potential infection.
